Dim the house lights and drop the curtain because the EBHS Drama Club is back for the 2023-2024 school year and they are better than ever. As usual, the Drama Club will be performing two shows this year, their first being the fall play titled She Kills Monsters.

The show follows the life of teenager Agnes Evans as she struggles to deal with the death of her sister. When one day she comes across her sister’s old Dungeons and Dragons game, she gets sucked into the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. The story takes place in both the imaginary world and the real one, where in both worlds Agnes must face the challenges that await her.

Both the cast and crew have been working hard in rehearsals after school every day in preparation for the performances. Senior Marina Syed, who is playing the villain in the show, shares how she is “very excited” to be playing a villain for the first time: “I have never played a villain before, and certainly not a villain who plays on her femininity and powerful side. This is exactly who I am, but meaner.”

Senior Abby Perillo, who was cast as the narrator in the show, explains how she is “so excited for this year of Drama Club.” She discusses all of the good things to come, including “the fall play, coffee houses, and the musical.”
Being seniors, this will be Marina and Abby’s final year participating in the Drama Club and performing on the stage at the EBHS auditorium. Abby admits how much she will miss “the experience and community” of the club most after she graduates. Marina reveals that she will “miss the familiarity of EBHS Drama Club” as it is her “comfort zone.” She concludes that after four years it will be hard for her to leave, but she knows that “it is time for [her] to move on to the bigger stages.”

The EBHS Drama Club’s and the senior’s final fall play performance of She Kills Monsters will be playing from December 8-10th.

Elizabeth Khavich, 10, Shlok Pathak, 12, and Ryleigh Balazs, 11, rehearse their fight scenes from She Kills Monsters.
