Babies are cute, however do you know what it actually takes to raise a child?

Babies are cute, however do you know what it actually takes to raise a child? Human Growth and Development gives you an opportunity to gain experience about what really goes into having a young child to care for. In this class students get the opportunity to carry around a flour baby. The flour baby helps expose them to being a parent. The assignment is that the kids have to carry around the flour babies for one week.  They need to sit with them and have someone babysit for them if they can’t have them in a class.

One of Mrs. Serpico’s students, Lilian Love stated  “It was difficult at first but as the week went on it became more enjoyable.”

Having to carry the babies around and finding babysitters might be a difficult thing in school but out in the real world it is even harder. This class helps give students a look into parenthood and what having an actual baby entails. How much they cost, what not to do. We sometimes take our parents for granted and we don’t understand what work they put into raising us. But over the course of the week students begin to understand what it is to care for a child. Even if it is just a sack of flour.
