Interview with Ms. Kenny-Stein: The evolution of EBHS Prom

June 20, 2022

A teacher for 22 years, prom chaperone for over 10 times, and the prom planner once, Ms. Kenny-Stein is undoubtedly one of the most knowledgeable teacher in the school about the topic. Keep reading to find out her experiences with how prom changed in our school throughout the years and her favorite aspects of the exciting event.

Q: How has prom changed throughout the years to you?
A: The prom hasn’t changed all that much in the 22 years I’ve been at the High School. They used to be at the Hilton, in a big ballroom on the second floor, but they moved to Pines Manor and we’ve stayed there because they offer us a much better deal than other local places. We are an especially large group, so not every venue can take us!

Q:Have you seen any promposals occur? If so when did they start gaining popularity?
A: Promposals seem to be less popular than they were 5 or 10 years ago, but are still cute. They usually involve getting friends involved and having a surprise moment that involves flowers and a poster. I’ve had several done in my class – even one this year!

Q: What is your favorite part about prom?
A: My favorite part about Prom is seeing the friend groups interacting and enjoying one another for one of the last times in high school. I love seeing what styles and colors are popular as well! The best part is seeing students go all out on the dance floor.

Q: What was your favorite prom theme?
A: I like elegant prom themes – stars, gardens, red carpet, glitz, etc. – but I’ve seen some fun ones online as well, like a circus, or a casino. I don’t really have a preference for one, but lots of flowers, lights, and attractive photo opportunities seem to be the most popular elements.

All in all, the best part about prom is the people- as according to Ms. Kenny-Stein. The people you meet, the friends you dance the night away with, and the cool photos you take after waiting in line for so long come together to form an unforgettable memory.
