Q: WHICH EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU?
A:
Of all the extracurricular activities that I have partake in, I believe marching band takes the spot for the most importance in my life. I was able to meet people that I was comfortable being myself with and growing within the community from a beginner to an inspiration to future members.

Q: WHAT ARE YOU HOLDING IN YOUR SPOTLIGHT PHOTO?
A:
What I’m holding is a saber. In color guard, it is one of many props we use to perform at marching band shows. Color guard also uses flags and rifles to perform. Sabers are usually taped to avoid damage and the risk of hurting my hand. Especially when tossing it, it would hit your hand constantly if it didn’t land on your arm or your head. Luckily the saber is also dull but it is best to not point it at anybody, just in case.

Q: WHAT DREW YOU TO START COLOR GUARD WITH THE MARCHING BAND?
A:
I was invited by one of my friends who was part of marching band. She asked if I was interested in joining color guard. I decided to check it out and I ended up loving it.

Q: WHAT IS THE COOLEST TRICK YOU HAVE LEARNED THROUGH COLOR GUARD?
A:
The trick that I remember the most is a parallel toss thrown from the back. Just like the name suggests, it is a toss that keeps the flag parallel to the ground as it spins in the air. I often forget how strong I am and usually throw my flag a little too high, which is not ideal for a parallel toss. Ask anyone from color guard who had me, they would say I would throw my parallel tosses way too high.

Q: WHAT HAS BEING A PART OF COLOR GUARD TOUGHT YOU THAT YOU WILL TAKE WITH YOU THROUGHOUT LIFE?
A:
Color guard has not only taught me to never give up when I didn’t get something right away but also taught me how to be someone that people can rely on. I learned that for a team to work and perform together, it is important to look out for one another. For color guard to be successful, we needed to be close as a family. That way we can sync with each other and sync with the band. Color guard has taught me the importance of bonding and it will be something I will cherish for the rest of my life!
