Sweet and Sticky Cinnamon Buns

To me, baking is more than just following a recipe; my grandma taught me that.

My grandma is my favorite person to bake with. On my 12th birthday, she gave me a cookbook that her mom gave to her on her 12th birthday. In this cookbook, her mother, my great grandmother, wrote a message to her, and right underneath my grandma wrote a message to me. She wrote:

“For best cooker my lovely Sabrina! Keep this book always with you remember about your grandgrandma Sveta!”

While I don’t get to bake with her often, whenever I go over to her house she excitedly whisks me away to the kitchen and shows me her newest baking creation which is always delicious.

One of the first times that we baked her infamous cinnamon bun recipe together, I remember asking my grandma where the measuring cups were and she looked at me and laughed. Her laugh was as warm as the melted butter she poured into the bowl without a thought in mind as to how much she put in. Recently, I decided to try to bake this delicious cinnamon bun recipe and while I wish I had my grandmas’ instinct, I do not, so I measured out and wrote down the measurements, I used to recreate the perfect sweet and sticky cinnamon buns!

After I made these cinnamon buns, I delivered them to my grandmas’ house and the look on her face when she took her first bite will forever be engrained in my mind. She told me she was proud of the hard work I put in. I was proud of myself too. Being able to share my cinnamon buns with her the same way she had always shared hers with me warmed my heart. Giving back to those you love is so important so if you ever attempt to make the recipe below, make sure to share your creation– because that is the sweetest part of the process. 🙂
