Q: WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU?
A: Two things I am passionate about are music and track. I’ve been running track for almost 5 years and I have been listening to music for as long as I remember. They both are almost therapeutic for me as they are always there for me whenever I need it.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM ALL YOUR TRACK SEASONS?
A: Of my 4 years, my one memory that stands out has to be the Twilight Meet from my Freshman year. It was the end of the season and this meet was the last one for our seniors. After this meet, the seniors would hang up their jerseys for East Brunswick and never return to the track again. The day started with me running the 3200, my favorite event. As the meet came to an end, the atmosphere changed. Everyone no longer had that aggressive mindset to run fast and it hit us that we would no longer be running with the same group of people anymore. The team did our last cool down around the school, and as we arrived at the track, we all realized that the seniors would be moving on. It was a bittersweet moment. I was happy that the seniors were moving on with their lives and going to college, but it was hard for me and the rest of the team to let them go. After a lot of tears, hugging, and promising to stay in touch, we all said our goodbyes and went home.
Q: IF YOU COULD ONLY LISTEN TO ONE MORE GENRE OF MUSIC FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
A: If I had to choose one genre, it would probably be Jazz. The versatility of the music allows for a good listen in any mood. This quarantine has brought me closer to the genre and it is so broad and vast that I still have so much more to discover and listen to.
Q: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOU SENIOR YEAR THAT WILL STICK WITH YOU FOREVER?
A: My senior year has taught me a lot of things, especially with how much impact COVID has done to it. But in the end, having a set routine is what is keeping me sane. I may not look like it but being organized is what keeps me moving forward. For example, every morning I wake up to the sunrise and have breakfast. I get all my school work done and I’m not late to any class. I eat lunch during our break and before track starts, I make a quick shake for after practice. I come home, shower, roll out, and get to work on my school work. Having this normalcy in my life has made life away from my friends just a little more bearable.
