Erin Cosio shines among the rest of her fellow seniors here at EBHS. She’s put in lots of effort and worked hard her entire high school career, all leading up to this point. Now its her turn at the spotlight. As a member of National Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society, and a captain of the Varsity girl’s basketball team, she sets an example for other EBHS students to follow.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM NECESSITIES THAT KEPT YOU GOING THROUGH QUARANTINE?

A: I would say my phone and social media so I can stay connected with family members and friends that I cannot hang out with. I also would say playing basketball because that’s one of my outlets that I need year round because it takes my stress away with everything else going on in school. No matter what kind of day I’ve had, that is where I turn to tune everything else out. Seeing some of my closest friends, even being socially distanced, I just need that in-person interaction with my friends, just to keep in contact with them.

Q: WHAT ABOUT BASKETBALL IS SO SPECIAL TO YOU?

A: I’ve played basketball since I was young and it always gave me something to work towards. I wanted to work the hardest out of everyone and prove a point. In 8th grade, I sat the bench and I didn’t play the game really, but I worked at it every single year and became a starter and captain of the team my junior year. What makes it so special to me is that I wasn’t in it for my personal stats, but I wanted to shape the program for the future years. I just wanted to shape the program for the future years, because every year was different for me and I wanted my senior year to be the last year where I set the tone for the rest of the program.

Q: WHAT LESSONS WILL YOU TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR SENIOR YEAR AND APPLY IN THE FUTURE?

A: One of the lessons I took away was if you’re just willing to meet new people, you’ll find your people no matter what group they’re coming from, what classes they take, what sports they play,, and you’ll find your true friends in high school. You’ll find your people when you’re not so worried about standards. I also learned that in everyday life we take almost everything for granted when we’re part of a routine. Once our routine was thrown off when we had to stay at home and in quarantine, that’s when you realize that just a little interaction that you have every single day matters the most, we can’t take those things for granted anymore.

Whether it be starring in basketball, or lightening the mood by socializing with her friends, Erin Cosio is a great role model for others to look up to. While this year’s global pandemic has challenged her, she rose up to the occasion and did not let it get in her way. She surely has a bright path ahead of her.
