The Expansive Future of the Astronomy Club
Just recently made official by the EBPL, the fledgling Astronomy Club has ambitious plans for a bright future.

The shiny-new Astronomy Club was voted to become official by the EBPL this last November, marking its start during a turbulent time of social isolation. Even before having its first ever meeting in December, there is a plan laid out for what the club will serve.
“We plan on hosting presentations for most of our meetings on various topics in astronomy, ranging from practical to theoretical,” states Emily Lildhar, 11, a participant of the new group. With all of the various aspects of astronomy to potentially be explored, it provides an opportunity for those passionate about all things space to stoke their interests. Along with presentational activities, the club plans on offering guidance when it comes to competing in various competitions, including the US Astronomy & Astrophysics Olympiad (USAAAO) and the International Astronomy & Astrophysics Competition (IAAC). Both examples being international and prestigious, it is necessary to foster the skills to perform well. The Astronomy Club will offer such a setting.
These are all riveting activities that can be held over meetings and through distance, but should the fog of the pandemic lift enough for safety, there is also a plan of action for when in-person class can resume. Emily divulges these plans. “Post-pandemic we hope to meet in person to attempt astro-related science experiments as well as observe the stars and look for constellations.” After months of accumulating presentations, the in-person Astronomy Club will be even more exciting than over distance.
Though newly formed, the Astronomy Club is starting out strong and its future looks bright. Hopefully, it can grow to be a space and a haven for those passionate about the final frontier.
