It’s no question that these past few weeks have been an unconventional time. With COVID-19 spreading faster than ever, Governor Murphy has implemented a new rule: you can’t enter a store unless you are wearing a mask. Some stores have even gone as far as stationing workers at the doors, ensuring that people are wearing masks before being allowed entry. As someone who does this very job at Acme, junior Corinne Lahr says, “ “It’s a great idea, especially since you may not know if you’ve been exposed to the virus.” Unfortunately, it isn’t easy getting your hands on a professionally made mask, which should be reserved for people on the frontlines of the virus.
But fear not! The Internet and YouTube can help guide you in making a mask. Here is just one way that you can make a mask with materials you probably already have at home.
What you’ll need:
-2 rubber bands, or hair elastics
-1 cotton bandana, t-shirt, or a cotton fabric
-1 coffee filter or paper towel
Now just follow these 5 easy steps:
Remember to cut your coffee filter or paper towel in half before starting.
1) Fold the cotton material of your choosing in half to create a rectangle.
2) Place the coffee filter or paper towel in the middle of the cotton material. Then fold the top down and the bottom up, creating a smaller rectangle.
3) Place the rubber bands or hair ties onto the piece of fabric about 6 inches apart.
4) Fold the sides of the rectangle into the middle, so that the hair ties or rubber bands stick out.
5) Adjust accordingly, and enjoy your homemade mask!
Once you have your mask, you’re ready to go out to the stores with no problem. Making a mask can be a really fun experience if you do it with the right people. If this method doesn’t suit you, there are also plenty of other ways to make a mask. Stay safe and healthy out there!
