Bowling: Striving for Perfection

The whole premise of bowling is different from many other sports; there is no defense, only offense. A team can be giving it all they have, but it still might not be enough. It takes time and patience to strive for perfection. Bowling is a very team oriented sport; student’s pin counts get added up at the end of each game to get a final score. Coach Spishock of the boy’s varsity bowling team in EBHS, says that, “the sport of bowling is a true team effort in that five of the six bowler’s scores are counted to determine the total pinfall and it is compared to the team we are against.” Coach Spishock explains that “In the state sectional tournament there were 40 teams there, 10 in each group. Ours had the second highest total out of all 40 teams. However, since the highest score was also in our group we did not win.”
The bowling teams here at EBHS always try and have a good time while playing the sport they love. According to junior Daniel Isaac, “It can be very competitive but at the end of the day what matters is that you enjoyed playing and learned a lesson or two from your fellow team mates.”
The boys’ varsity bowling team has had a great season with a record of eleven wins, four losses and only two ties. The boys made it to the semi-finals of their GMC tournament, and came in second for the State Sectional Tournament to advance to the state finals. In the biggest and most difficult tournament which was the Central Jersey Winter Classic, the team placed 5th. The team also placed second in the Joe Romer Tournament. Overall the team has had an amazing season and the boys had a bunch of fun.
