Coming off stress and anxiety from COVID, students need a class where they can sit back and relax. Mrs. Roth’s class helps relieve students from all their academics and gets a chance to express all their creativity in the world of digital arts.

Q: HOW HAS YOUR YEAR BEEN SO FAR HERE AT EBHS?

A: So far it’s great for us. I like how I get to see all the students and teachers again since we’ve been gone for so long.

Q: WHAT GOT YOU INTO DIGITAL ARTS?

A: I actually took classes like this when I was in high school and college. So I got this job when someone else retired. And Photoshop is just something that I have a really big passion for, and photography. So they kind of go hand in hand with each other.

Q: IF YOU NEVER FOUND DIGITAL ARTS, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR CAREER?

A: I would probably be someone who works as an academic advisor in a university setting, I like keeping students who are athletes on track with their work and keeping them eligible.

Q: HOW DOES YOUR CLASS HELP STUDENTS IN THE FUTURE?
A: I’ve had students who told me they were given internships.  I got one email from a student who just graduated a fear years ago. He learned many skills through Adobe, Illustrator,  and Photoshop. He recently got an internship at NASA. I don’t know how the two combine exactly, but he sent me that email, and I was like, I have a question. How did that fit together? But yeah, he’s coming to see me on one alumni Day, which just got moved. But I’m asking him that question, for sure. I’ve really been impressed with the emails I’ve gotten throughout the years. As long as it works out, and people are happy with what they’re doing that makes me happy.

Q: WHAT HAVE YOUR STUDENTS TAUGHT YOU OVER THE YEARS?

A: Well, a lot of things. Canvas for one, I was kind of forced into Canvas, when we went virtual learning, but I didn’t really use it that much simply because  I would download their work, and I would grade it right there. But they’ve actually taught me to be more chill and try to keep things cool. They’ve taught me to be very patient when teaching. I would say after 30 years, I’ve become a lot more flexible with teaching.

As Mrs. Roth said, students can really be the teachers in some classes. The world of digital arts helps expand students’ creativity allowing them to have all sorts of opportunities.
