Senior Karina Munoz smiles after showing off her skill on the floor event. The floor event is actually senior Sydney Yu’s favorite event because it is “the event you get to show the most personality since you get floor music and choreography.”

The EBHS Gymnastics team have been on fire all season with an undefeated record. Constant wins, gold medals, and broken records has made for a season that will be remembered forever.

After already winning the Greater Middlesex Conference Championship (GMCs) and the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Section 2 titles, the Lady Bears went into the State Team Championship as determined as ever.

Senior gymnast Sydney Yu described what the team was thinking during the State competition: “When the announcer announced the second place team, immediately we all looked at each other in disbelief until he announced that we won,” she added, “This disbelief didn’t go away, especially after learning that we’d made EB History.”

Not only did the EBHS Gymnastics team place Number 1 in New Jersey for the first time in East Brunswick history, but senior gymnast Karina Munoz placed Number 1 in New Jersey as well during the individual competitions. Karina was the vault, bars, floor, and all-around state champion, breaking the NJ floor record with a score of 9.85.

Karina, who became emotional after winning the competition, told the Hub: “I wish I could tell younger Karina that it is okay to show your emotions and be proud of yourself. I often felt that I needed to hide my victories because I did not want to be viewed as conceited.”

The EBHS community agrees with Karina and we are filled with pride for the team.
The Gymnastics team has achieved incredible things this season, and there is no doubt that there are more victories in store for them in the future.
