Girls Winter Track: Running for the Win
During the winter season, the girls track team worked diligently and persistently. Through the 8am practices on Saturdays, and meets taking up almost a whole day, they still continued to work to their full potential. Track may be challenging; however, it’s worth the blood, sweat and tears. EBHS Bear Hub interviewed a few girls and a coach from the girls winter track team. Here are the responses from several girls who ran this season.

Senior Sneha Magesh:
Q: WHAT SETS YOUR TEAM APART FROM OTHER EBHS WINTER SPORTS?
A: Winter track is different from other winter sports because although we have one of the biggest teams we are one big family. Everyone on the team enjoys the sport and we all bond through our love of doing it. Everyone just has a lot of fun and has a good time while getting what we have to get done.
Senior Shirell Battle:
Q: WHAT WAS THE BEST MOMENT OF THE SEASON?
A: When I was able to PR and reach 30 ft 2 inches in shot out because it can be hard to stay consistent; however, just bonding with the team at meets helps in that.
Coach Laura Calderone:
Our team is unique because we have 80 athletes of different strengths and abilities, that come together to accomplish one goal. The upperclassmen lead the team to believe in hard work and commitment, and everyone on our team believes that they have what it takes to accomplish great things!
The girls track team had a successful winter season, with several highlights. Senior Gabby Donou won 6th overall in the GMC Championships with a 5:25 in the 1600M, and senior Maggie McGlyn won 6th overall in the GMC Championships with a 9.29 in the 55M hurdles. Also, 4 varsity relays finished top 6 at the GMC relays, and 1 novice relay finished top 6 at the GMC relays. The girls worked hard, and their work payed off, this winter track season.
